Our opening hymn echoed the words of today’s second reading from the book of the Apocalypse:

To the One who is sitting on the throne
and to the Lamb,
be all praise, honour, glory and power,
for ever and ever.

The Communion antiphon:

Jesus said to his disciples:
Come and eat.
And he took bread
and gave it to them,
alleluia.

in turn found an echo in Marty Haugen’s thoughful gentle song setting.

  1. Glad that we sang Battle is o'er at the end as well, it's always been a favourite of mine in the Easter season - those rhythmic 3rd verses!

Just a query on the Gloria, has the unnamed Gloria that was sung a few times in June 2011 since been published? If so which one is it? I ask because I went to one of the Masses then and can't remember how it went!

  2. Thanks, Philip. Never tiring be our choiring can bring a wry smile to faces in the choir, especially when we're exhausted after our Triduum efforts.

That Gloria was the revised setting from Bob Hurd’s Missa Ubi Caritas, which the publisher kindly provided a preview of shortly before the new translation of the Missal came in. We’ve used it a few times since, and it will certainly stay in our repertoire, along with the rest of the (excellent) Mass setting.

  3. Thanks, I remember that one from last year. Can't say I dislike any of the revised/new Gloria settings we've sung at the Cathedral since the translation; Peter Jones' Gloria and the Psallite Mass are my favourites.

  4. Yes, it's been very pleasing that the people have taken to the Psallite setting so well. I'm still on the lookout for another good one though - at the moment we have four or five Glorias in regular use, and another one would make it easier to ring the changes. I'll keep looking!
