Recessional For all the saints

We were joined by about thirty sisters (to say nothing of a friar or two) from the northern houses of the Discalced Carmelite Order, for a special celebration for the five hundredth birthday of their co-founder. Bishop John was our principal celebrant. In the interests of hospitality, we swapped our current regular Mass setting for more traditional fare, and sang settings of two texts penned by the saint herself.

St Thérèse of Lisieux was a member of the same order, and we sang the setting of her Chant d’aujourd’hui I wrote for the visit of the relics six years ago. The hymn at the Preparation of the Gifts and the Postcommunion motet kept us connected to the themes of today’s Lectionary selections.
